DNA Polymerase I (E. coli) has double-strand-specific 5′→3′ exonuclease activity and single-strand-specific 3′→5′ exonuclease activity. The 5´→3´ exonuclease activity of this enzyme excises nucleotides located at the front of the extending strand, making translational cleavage possible. The function of DNA Polymerase I in living cells is mainly to correct errors in replication and fill in gaps that occur during replication and repair.

  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

    Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
