Macroautophagy is an autophagy process that is different from conventional autophagy and involves the clearance of large intracellular and extracellular particles through the fusion of vacuolar (macropinosome) contents. Various techniques can be used to detect macroautophagy, including microscopic observation of macroautophagic vacuole formation, flow cytometry, fluorescent probe labeling, and expression analysis of related genes or proteins.
