The COL4A3 protein is a key type IV collagen component that forms the major structural element of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). It collaborates with laminin, proteoglycans, and nestin/nesidin to create a "chicken wire" network that is critical for maintaining the structural integrity of the GBM.
