Glucagonis a pleiotropic hormone with metabolic actionthat ability to directly act on the liver to increase de novo glucose production and to inhibit glycogen breakdown. Glucagon further promotes lipolysis and lipid oxidation and has positive chronotropic and inotropic effects in the heart.
