Located in cytosol and nucleus. Used to study cataract and transient cerebral ischemia. Biomarker of several diseases, including artery disease (multiple); hepatic encephalopathy; hyperhomocysteinemia; obesity; and phenylketonuria. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including anemia (multiple); cerebrovascular disease; favism; malaria (multiple); and neonatal jaundice.
