Acts upstream of or within negative regulation of Insulin secretion. Located in plasma membrane. Is active in Schaffer collateral - CA1 synapse and glutamatergic synapse. Is integral component of synaptic membrane. Used to study middle cerebral artery infarction. Biomarker of isolated growth hormone deficiency; multiple endocrine neoplasia; obstructive sleep apnea; status epilepticus; and transient cerebral ischemia.
