Bleomycin D1 selection antibiotic is a formulation of phleomycin D1, produced by Streptomyces verticillus, is an alkaline, water-soluble, copper ion chelated glycopeptide antibiotic.

Resistance to Bleomycin D1 is conferred by the Sh ble gene product from Streptoalloteichus hindustanus, which inactivates Bleomycin D1 upon binding to the antibiotic. Therefore, Bleomycin D1 is a popular and effective antibiotic for selecting vectors bearing the Sh ble gene in a variety of cells types (bacteria, eukaryotic microorganisms, plant and animal cells).

Protocol

The Bleomycin D1 selection antibiotic solution can be used according to the following methods:

1.   Add Bleomycin D1 selection antibiotic solution in proportion to the sterile cell culture solution, mix well before use.

2.   Add Bleomycin D1 selection antibiotic solution in proportion to the cell culture solution, filter and sterilize.
