Involved in several processes, including camera-type eye development; cellular response to oxidative stress; and retinoid metabolic process. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including endothelial cell-cell adhesion; toxin metabolic process; and vasculature development. Located in mitochondrion. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; musculature; nervous system; and sensory organ. Used to study buphthalmos. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Peters anomaly; anterior segment dysgenesis 6; breast cancer; glaucoma (multiple); and lung squamous cell carcinoma.
