Betamethasone acetate is a glucocorticoid with prenatal application for preventing respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants. Betamethasone acetate exhibits dose-dependent effects on somatic and brain development in offspring when administered prenatally to pregnant rats. Betamethasone acetate can be used for the study of antenatal intervention[1][2].

Betamethasone acetate (0.125-0.25 mg/kg，肌内注射，单剂量) 改善早产羊的胎肺成熟[1]。
Betamethasone (170-340 μg/kg，鼻内给药，在胚胎第 20 天 4 小时内给药两次) (acetate) 在孕期 Fisher 344 大鼠的后代中诱导适度的剂量依赖性体格生长迟缓 (出生体重、冠尾长度、头部直径减少)[2]。

Animal Model: Preterm sheep (122 days of gestation)[1]
Dosage: 0.125, 0.25 mg/kg
Administration: i.m., single dose
Result: Improved fetal lung maturation in preterm sheep.
Increased the mRNA expression of surfactant proteins A, B, C (SFTPA, SFTPB, SFTPC), ABCA3, and AQP5 in fetal sheep lungs.
Animal Model: 3-month-old time-pregnant Fisher 344 dams[2]
Dosage: 170, 340 μg/ kg
Administration: i.n., twice within 4 h on E20
Result: Induced moderate dose-dependent somatic growth retardation.
Caused significant brain growth retardation in offspring.
Exhibited chronically anti-proliferative effects on brain cells.
