Acts upstream of or within calcium ion-regulated exocytosis of neurotransmitter; spontaneous neurotransmitter secretion; and synchronous neurotransmitter secretion. Located in several cellular components, including glutamatergic synapse; presynaptic membrane; and secretory vesicle. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; central nervous system; genitourinary system; peripheral nervous system ganglion; and sensory organ.
