KLTWQELYQLKYKGI is a VEGF mimetic peptide designed based on the VEGF helix sequence 17-25, with the ability to activate VEGF receptors and exert pro-angiogenic biological activity. KLTWQELYQLKYKGI effectively promotes the attachment, spreading and proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells. KLTWQELYQLKYKGI enhances the proliferation, migration and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs). KLTWQELYQLKYKGI synergistically accelerates angiogenesis and bone regeneration in rat cranial defect models. KLTWQELYQLKYKGI can be used for the research of brain tissue engineering and traumatic brain injury repair and biomaterials for bone tissue engineering and bone repair[1][2].

Animal Model: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) model in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats (180-220 g, male)[1]
Dosage: Immobilized on HA hydrogel
Administration: Implanted into lesion cavity of traumatic brain injury (TBI) model in rats, once, 4 weeks
Result: Enabled HA-KLT hydrogel to well fill the irregular brain lesion cavity.
Formed a tight connection and permissive interface with host brain tissue (partially merged).
Showed no macroscopic inflammation or toxicity at the injury site.
Increased the number of newly formed microvessels in the lesion site.
Upregulated the expression of endoglin/CD105 (a specific marker of neoformed blood vessels) in rat brain injury tissue.
Animal Model: Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats (6-8 weeks old, weighing approximately 200 g)[2]
Dosage: 5 mg/mL in gelatin-based blue-light-curable hydrogel
Administration: Injected into cranial defects and cured with blue light for 2 min, 2 weeks
Result: Achieved significantly enhanced angiogenesis in the cranial defect area.
Promoted bone regeneration in the cranial defect of SD rats.
