The HLA-G, part of the MHC class I family, is pivotal in immune regulation by presenting antigens to cytotoxic T cells and natural killer cells. Distinct from other MHC class I molecules, it shows limited polymorphism and tissue-specific expression, including in immune-privileged sites and the placenta. Linked to immune tolerance, its expression guards against excessive immune responses.
