kappa Opioid Receptor 是一种 G-protein coupled opioid receptor，主要作为内源性 alpha-neoendorphins 和 dynorphins 的受体，但对 beta-endorphins 的亲和力较低。它还能与多种合成阿片类药物以及精神活性二萜 salvinorin A 结合。配体结合后会引起构象变化，通过 guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) 触发信号传导，并调节下游效应分子（如 adenylate cyclase）的活性，最终抑制腺苷酸环化酶活性。该受体通过减少钙离子电流和增加钾离子电导来抑制神经递质释放，参与痛觉感知。此外，它在合成阿片类药物引起的体力活动减少中发挥作用，并调节合成阿片类药物刺激下的唾液分泌。可能还参与觉醒以及自主神经和神经内分泌功能的调节。
